The market’s message this week was constructive. Major indexes rebounded as strong earnings provided clearer evidence that AI investment is beginning to translate into revenue and operating growth. This improvement in fundamentals helped stabilize sentiment after several difficult weeks for semiconductors and other crowded AI trades.
AI Earnings Strengthen the Case for Continued Investment
Easing concerns around Iran helped oil prices and Treasury yields decline early in the week. Markets gave back some gains when both moved higher on Thursday, but strong corporate earnings remained the more important driver.
Microsoft and Amazon provided some of the clearest evidence that major technology companies are beginning to monetize their AI investments. Microsoft reported 43% Azure growth and a 30% increase in operating cash flow. Amazon delivered its strongest AWS growth in more than four years, with revenue rising 37%. These results suggest that AI infrastructure is already contributing to faster cloud growth and stronger operating earnings. Microsoft and Amazon provided the clearest examples.
Capital spending is therefore likely to remain elevated. Both companies continue to see AI demand exceeding available capacity. Near-term free cash flow may remain pressured by heavy data-center investment, particularly at Amazon, but recently deployed infrastructure should begin contributing more meaningfully to revenue and cash generation over time.
This makes us more interested in selective exposure to the Magnificent Seven. Microsoft and Amazon are becoming more attractive as AI supports faster growth, while their scale, distribution and customer relationships provide durable advantages. We will focus on companies showing the clearest connection between AI investment, revenue growth and future cash flow.
Software earnings delivered a similar but more divided message. Palantir demonstrated strong enterprise AI demand, while several other software stocks declined despite respectable results because expectations were already high or guidance was less convincing. The strongest opportunities are likely to be companies with proprietary data, deeply embedded workflows and measurable AI-driven improvements in revenue, productivity or margins.
Semiconductors and AI-infrastructure stocks also rebounded this week, although many remain below recent highs following a difficult month. We continue to view the earlier weakness as primarily a valuation and positioning reset rather than a collapse in demand. Hyperscaler capex plans remain strong, supporting continued investment across semiconductors, memory, networking, optical components and power infrastructure.
Quantel’s Take: From AI Hype to Earnings Reality
Our near-term outlook remains constructive, supported by strong earnings, continued AI investment and improving monetization across platforms and software. Next week’s CPI report will be an important test: a stable inflation reading should support valuations and market confidence, while an upside surprise could renew pressure on Treasury yields and growth stocks. Beyond short-term volatility, we remain focused on companies delivering durable earnings growth and clear returns from AI investment.
